Our Home

OK - So it only took me a few months to get a picture of our finished home posted.  Some of you may have been by and seen it already. But for those of you who haven't here you go.

True there is still a fair amount of things to be done - some decorating, hanging pictures, landscaping, etc. but we are working on it.  The other day Holly opened up a box from storage that had a bunch of the kids toys.  Apparently the kids had forgotten about those toys until the box was opened.  It was like Christmas in September!   

Cowgirl

Aspen and I went down to the Summercamp last weekend to help gather cows off the mountain. Aspen has ridden a fair amount at Grandpa Lambert's house and a few times at the ranch and other places, but this is the first time she has ridden, by herself in the mountains. Obviously ridding in the mountains with all the uphill, downhill, side hill, oak brush, cedar trees, fences, etc. is quite different. Aspen did AWESOME! She rode all over the ranch for nearly 2 days. She help gather the cows and never fell off once! :)

After spending 7+ hours in the saddle on Saturday, and another 4 Sunday morning - Aspen and I are both a little sore. But we had lots of fun and can't wait to do it again. (Thanks Holly for letting us go!)

Aspen's Shirt got snagged on some Oak Brush. Next time Daddy will get her a better shirt to wear.

Aspen found an Elk Shed.

After talking with Grandma Becky about when she was a little girl - Aspen had her heart set on riding bare back.

Polly Pockets

A couple of weeks ago a was just getting home from a hunting trip in Colorado. I opened the door to an empty house (Holly and the Kids were at Grandpa Strong's house). When I came into the front room I found this:





Apparently the was a Polly Pocket Parade or possibly Jessica was just having a hard time deciding what her Polly pockets would wear and decided to lay out their entire wardrobe on the floor. I thought is was cute. Jessica is definitely the Princess of our family!

Aspen Driving !!!

Last weekend Aspen and I went to the Summercamp for a weekend of Bow hunting. We had a good time despite the fact that we didn't get a deer. We saw some, but no shooters within bow range. It was good just to get away and spend some time in the mountains. We did see a lot of wildlife on the trip including: Deer, Elk, Bear, Coyote, Badger, Prairie Dog, & Sage Grouse. No great pictures as I left my camera's memory card at home in the computer. All I had was the camera on my phone.

Aspen spent a fair amount of time riding the 4-wheeler as well as a short ride on one of the ranch horses. But her highlight of the trip was when Daddy let her drive the truck!

I remember when I got my first chance to drive the old 1979 Toyota pickup truck that my Dad had when I was a kid. I'm not sure how old I was, but I definitely remember how much fun it was, and how big and grown up I felt.

As you can imagine Holly gave me the look when she found out and saw the video. :)

(I have been quite busy lately and have not updated the blog much. We are in our new home, have been for a couple months now. I need to take some pictures of the finished product and post them here. Of course "finished" is a relative word, the house may be done but that just opens the door to the next project - the Yard!)

Exterior Started

They have started working on the exterior of our home. We did suffer a minor setback with the stone - they stone masons made some mistakes and had to start over - but this shouldn't hold up our schedule.

Kidney Stones Round 2!

I made another trip to the emergency room today. This time there was no wondering what was causing the pain. It was not that long ago that I went through my first kidney stone experience (December '09).

I was working on our new house this morning and started to notice I wasn't feeling well. After only a few minutes the pain increase dramatically and then I knew what it was. I went to my truck and grabbed some pain medication. I had them handy because the last time they told me to keep some close by as there were additional stones in my kidney waiting to come down.

I took one pill then, and then drove home. After about 1/2 hr I could tell that one pill was NOT going to be enough so I took another. Then an hour or so later the pain was escalating and the pain pills were virtually ineffective. It was time to call in re-enforcements!

My father in law came home from work and drove me to the emergency room. (Holly was in SLC picking out light fixtures for our house.) The emergency room staff could tell by my appearance that I was in a lot of pain and acted quickly. After the IV was started they gave me a shot of morphine - but it didn't even scratch the surface. After a few more minutes they tried another drug (not sure of the name), again - no reduction in pain whatsoever. Finally they gave me a shot of what they said was the "Best Stuff they had". Finally after a couple minutes the pain started to subdue.

With the pain under control and a cat scan showing a couple of stones, one near the bladder and one still in my kidney they let me go home - pain subscription in one hand, urine strainer in the other. (Sorry, no pics of me in my very attractive hospital gown.)

The rest of the day I spent trying to shake off all that pain medication. It was similar to when you get done at the dentist office and the novocain starts to wear off - you know how your mouth feels? That's about how my whole body felt.

Drywall Started Today!

We passed our 4-way inspection earlier this week and we are starting on the drywall today. We are on track for a mid June close!

Progress on our House

We broke ground on March 29th and here we are on April 23rd (25 Calendar Days, 22 Actual Working Days!) Windows were installed today, Exterior doors and 4 way inspection on Monday!

Web Cam

I almost forgot - Our new neighbors have set up a web cam for us to view the progress of our home. This has been useful with me working in Salt Lake all day, but most of all it's just been kind of cool to watch the progress. The camera provides live video, that I can control via the Internet (zoom, wide, pan left or right / up or down, etc.) Here are couple of snap shots taken from the end of today.

View from the Second Floor

Things are progressing on our new home. This morning I took a few pictures from the second floor. We should have some nice views. As far as schedule goes, trusses got delivered today and will be set tomorrow morning - we are still on track to be done in June! (Even with all this crazy/snowy weather we've been having.)

Priate Island!

We took Jackson to Pirate Island for his Birthday. His Birthday was actually almost a week ago but we just had a lot going on with the move, the new house and Easter weekend. Jack had fun and so did the girls. The food was decent and there was plenty of it! I think we took home as much as we ate there. Obviously the arcade was the highlight for the kids.

"Home" Music

I did a little searching through playlist.com looking for songs with the word "home" or "house" in the lyrics. I found a hand full - some of which I haven't heard in quite a while. These should be somewhat fitting for the next 2-3 months while we build our new home. :)

Footings Poured!

We poured the footings today (technically yesterday - I just looked down and saw what time it was.) We dug the hole Monday, footings poured Tuesday and foundation walls will be poured Wednesday. We should be able to start framing a week from this Friday!!!

The kids were either sad or neutral when we told them we were moving. Now that they can actually see the home getting start they're getting excited too!

It has begun!!!

Today we broke ground on our new home in Mapleton! It will be tight but we are planning on being done at the end of June.

Kids say the darndest things!

Jackson has been a little sick this past week, which included a few cases of diarrhea. After one incident he told Holly that he had "Cafe-ria" :)

Jackson has also been asking if we can do "the piggy bank". I couldn't figure out what he meant until he pointed at Jessica's "Easy Bake" oven.

Maybe we should get his hearing checked? :) :) :)

Bowling!!!

Last week Holly went to St. George and I had the kids from Wednesday night through Sunday night. Thursday I had to go to work, so I took the girls to school and then dropped off Jackson at Grandma and Grandpa Lambert's house for the day. He had a great time! Of course who wouldn't, especially if they took you bowling!! Check out the flip video link below.
